Josh Broaddus, ARM, MS
Josh

While obtaining a MS in Loss Prevention and Safety and a BS in Assets Protection with a minor in Insurance Risk Management, he worked in Loss Prevention for a large national retail chain with responsibilities of controlling internal and external theft and general shrinkage, and he worked for the Safety Department at a large paper mill in FL conducting confined space entry permits, contractor safety training and the monthly department safety meetings. He successfully advanced in the Loss Prevention field while working for several national insurance carriers, having spent his last 2.5 years with Liberty Mutual as a Sr. Loss Prevention Consultant. This multi-line commercial insurance experience in Loss Prevention has enabled Josh to effectively identify key loss exposures and create efficient solutions for risk reduction. Josh started with J. Smith Lanier in April 2006 as a Director of Risk Management Services, and was named Managing Director of Risk Control in 2008. Josh has completed his Associate in Risk Management designation (ARM), and is an OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer in both Construction and General Industry, and is able to teach both the 10 hr and 30 hr courses for both segments.



Ken Govar, CSP, ARM
Ken

Ken joined J. Smith Lanier in August 1999. Job responsibilities include: property and casualty loss control services. Ken provides training programs for property and casualty loss control, department of transportation motor carrier laws and regulations, and OSHA safety standards.

Prior to employment with the Lanier Ken was with USF&G for 12 years, Sedgwick James for 10 years, and most recently with Aon Risk Services. Ken has also been operations manager for a trucking/chemical distribution company. Special skills include loss prevention for self -insured workers compensation programs, public entity risks, process safety, truck driver log violation correction programs. Ken has received his CSP and ARM designations. He also has a BS in Chemistry from the University of Central Arkansas.



Michael Govar, ARM, AAI
Michael

While obtaining his Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Columbus State(2007), Michael was an intern at J. Smith Lanier & Co. for three years, serving in the Risk Control department. In June of 2005, Michael received his Property and Casualty insurance license, and after completing his BBA degree in 2007, he joined the JSL Risk Control division full time. He has since achieved his Associate in Risk Management designation (ARM), as well as his Accredited Adviser in Insurance designation (AAI). Michael has been a key member of the Risk Control team on large Construction OCIP programs, completed a wide range of DOT related training for accounts with fleet exposures, set up a web based learning management system (www.MyJSL.com) where clients can go for risk control information and online safety training. He has served as a co-instructor on numerous General Industry and Construction 10-hr courses. Michael continues his continual pursuit to further his education and knowledge base on a variety of risk management topics.



Pat Marcott, MCA, CSP

Pat

Patrick joined J. Smith Lanier & Co. in 2008 as Regional Director of Risk Control. He has been in health and safety for 20 years as a specialist in the insurance industry and a Health and Safety Manager in a manufacturing environment.

As a Workers’ Compensation Specialist he analyzed Health and Safety programs and worked with companies to incorporate cost effective safety policies and procedures. He has conducted extensive work in ergonomics in office environments and manufacturing, to mitigate repetitive motion injuries and improve workplace productivity. In the capacity of Property specialist he analyzed property protection systems and plans to determine if they were adequate for the exposures to be protected. As a manufacturing Safety Manager he was responsible for maintaining implementing the organization’s safety programs.

Patrick has a BS in Occupational Safety and Industrial Technology. While working as a consultant he has obtained an MBA, and his designation as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).


Alan Parker, ARM
Alan

Alan joined J. Smith Lanier & Co. in 1999 as a Risk Management Consultant. Alan provides risk management consulting services to our clients for property and casualty loss control, OSHA consultations, health regulations, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Alan received his Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia in 1976. Prior to joining J. Smith Lanier & Co., he worked 18 plus years with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in various positions providing risk management service to clients in Liberty’s Commercial Markets Business Unit. Alan holds the Associate in Risk Management designation (ARM) and is an OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer for General Industry. While being based our of the JSL Columbus, GA office, Alan services clients all over the southeast and is an available resource to all JSL commercial lines service accounts.


Jim Pinkston, MS
Jim

Jim started with the J. Smith Lanier in 2009 as a regional director of risk control. Over a 24 year safety career, he has worked with two national insurance carriers and a regional agency. His experience includes certifications in all lines of coverage with work in large property, fleet, products, general liability and worker’s compensation. He has expertise in construction, machine guarding, ergonomics, sprinkler evaluations, and product safety reviews. Jim has assisted a wide variety of accounts by reviewing safety programs and conducting loss trending in order to prioritize and focus safety efforts.

Jim has a BA degree from the University of Kentucky and a Masters degree in Occupational Safety and Health from Murray State University. He is an OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer in General Industry and can instruct in both 10 and 30 hour courses.
